Kia ora koutou e hoa mā!

My name is Abby, and I’m thrilled to be serving as the Wellness Officer for the AUT Law Society in 2025. I am a 24-year-old full-time Part II law student with a passion for wellbeing and a deep commitment to supporting mental and emotional health within our community.

Originally from Tauranga and the youngest of three siblings, I grew up with a strong appreciation for whānau and resilience. My journey to law school was not traditional—I spent six years away from studying after high school, unsure of my future. However, seeing my mum return to study at 50 to become a social worker inspired me to take the leap and pursue my own education.

Today, I am proud to be studying law at AUT, where I’m particularly interested in Criminal Law, Māori legislation, and Family Law. As someone who has navigated challenges with anxiety and self-doubt, I’m passionate about creating a supportive and open environment for students to discuss their mental health and wellbeing. Throughout 2025, my goal is to foster a culture of self-care, encourage balance between academic and personal life, and ensure that students feel heard and supported. I also draw inspiration from my three young nieces, and it’s important to me to set a positive example for them as they grow. By advocating for wellness and helping others through their own journeys, I aim to contribute to a thriving, resilient law community at AUT. I look forward to working with all of you to make 2025 a year focused on collective wellbeing!

Last but not least - I am also involved in the Education portfolio, working alongside Zita, so looking forward to contributing there too.
