MEET LUMINA NOREEN MENDONCA

Kia Ora AUT Law whānau!
My name is Noreen (she/her) and I am thrilled to be part of the AUTLSS Exec as one of your City Social Officers. In 2025, I am a Part Two student pursuing a double degree of Bachelors in Laws and Bachelors in Arts majoring in Law and Criminology and minoring in Psychology. As your social officer, I am excited to bring some of the best social events AUTLSS has to offer for you including mix and mingles, and most importantly AUTLSS Gala !!
I am proud to be a South Asian immigrant woman who is passionate about advocacy through the legal profession and I love learning about how themes from the field of Criminology and Psychology interact with the Criminal Justice System in Aotearoa. I envision myself specializing in Family Law and Immigration Refugee Law, driven by my desire to advocate for marginalized communities including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women and children. Family Law is considered one of the most mentally draining areas of law, but I am drawn to this specialisation due to the impact I can make through my empathy and experiences. Having experienced the challenges of navigating through immigration processes firsthand, I understand the importance of accessibility to legal support and guidance. My law journey hasn’t been the straight and narrow like most other students to say the least. I’ve had my fair share of struggles with immigration and have been financially supporting my own education, so I know what it feels like if you’re in the same boat. I think I’m also most relatable to the people that went to UoA first and then were reassured that AUT is so much better in every aspect!!! If you find me on campus, we can bond on that experience.
